As a group, we examined the possible initiatives the material departments may adopt. In addition we intended to establish a decision making model to decide on the initiatives of the highest returns.
The team identified the Best-In-Class Material Management department with the following attributes:
- Accurate Schedule
- On-Time Delivery to Outside Customers
- Accurate Forecast
- Supplier Compliance to Schedule
- Fragmented Information system
- Accurate Information
- One Integrated Application
- Engineering Accountability
The benefit of the approach used in the workshop greatly depends on the experience and discretion of department's management while detailed information are not required to carryout the rationale and prioritization process.
The decision based model enable the material department to establish the guidelines to investment opportunities, contribution, pay back, and priorities based on the department business objectives.
