Simulation Study of a Flexible Assembly System

Modeling and simulation are the tools which give a better look to the systems dynamics.  A segment of the assembly line operation is analyzed and evaluated through modeling and simulation.

The objective of this paper is to measure the performance of the ISLAND of automation.  The ISLAND in the assembly line is constructed of more than one systems/variables.  The simulation allows the integration of all systems/variables that build and define the ISLAND.  The performance index of the ISLAND is a function of all systems/variables.  The automated Guided Vehicle Systems (AGVS) is the mechanism used to transfer the assembly jobs from/to the ISLAND.
